CONTROLS
Controls are situated at regular intervals along the route and riders need to visit each one to get a stamp on their Brevet card.
There will be nine controls and each will be visited twice, once on the way to Edinburgh and then again on the way back to London. Dalkeith will only be visited once.
The controls will vary in what they offer riders but all will offer good food, washing and or shower facilities, sleeping facilities, mechanical assistance if required, emergency cycle spares and the most pleasant and helpful volunteers that you will ever meet on an Audax ride.
Gamlingay is a feeding station only on the way out and a full control on the return journey.
Alternative sleeping facilities are offered by the following Youth Hostels.
Thurlby Youth Hostel is 500 metres from the Thurlby Control.
Langdon Beck Youth Hostel is on the road between Alston and Middleton Tyas.
Alston Youth Hostel is approximately 800 metres from Alston Control.
There will be one secret control along the route. This will only offer hot drinks, cake, sandwiches and a floor to sleep on. Some bedding may be provided.
