Weather
The event is run in mid-summer but don't rely on hot sunshine. Britain has a maritime climate and we can have rain at any time of the year and sometimes lots of it. The summer of 2007 say much flooding across the country. You are advised to fit mudguards (fenders) on your bike, your fellow cyclists will appreciate it too.
Expect daytime temperatures of around 20-25°C (68-77°F) and night time temperatures of about 10°C (50°F) - although in the hills of the north it can get very cold at night and even at the end of July temperatures can drop as low as 5°C (41°F). You are advised to carry gloves and tights or leg-warmers. As the route goes through some hilly areas, you are also advised to carry a hat and windproof jacket for the descents. We may have glorious weather (it has been known to happen in England), in which case, you'd be advised to wear plenty of sunscreen and keep up your fluid intake.
The prevailing wind in Britain is southwesterly.
